IDENTIFIED BY FAITH They went right into the
house where he was staying, and Jesus asked them, "Do
you believe I can make you see?" "Yes,
Lord," they told him, "we do."
Then he touched their eyes and said, "Because
of your faith, it will happen." And suddenly they
could see! – Matthew 9:28-30a (NLT)
In
this particular instance Jesus states that faith is a condition to
receiving His healing touch. Two men petition Jesus to show mercy on
them by removing the blindness from their eyes. Jesus’ focus is not on
eyes that cannot see, but on the level of trust in His ability to heal
them. The men truly believed and their blindness was removed.
God promises us that we are His children, that He loves us, that
we can do all things through the strength that He grants us, that the
Holy Spirit indwells and serves as a deposit guaranteeing our
inheritance that is still to come, and that we are significant in His
eyes. But how do we actually reflect all of these promises in our lives?
It is one thing to claim them as truth, it is quite another to trust in
these promises as a present reality. Just like the two blind men, we
will become what we believe. If we actually believe that we are who God
says that we are in Christ, we will live like those kind of people. If
we do not believe, we will never live up to our full potential as
Christians. |
