IT'S ALIVE So you see, it isn't enough just to have faith. Faith that doesn't show
itself by good deeds is no faith at all—it is dead and useless. Now
someone may argue, "Some people have faith; others have good
deeds." I say, "I can't see your faith if you don't have good
deeds, but I will show you my faith through my good deeds." – James 2:17-18 (NLT)
There is a term used for those things that no longer demonstrate
signs of life – the term is dead.
This is the term used to describe a person who has ceased to breath and
whose brain is no longer active. The same term is used to describe a
flower that is no longer reaching for the sun nor has its roots growing
deep into the soil. Death comes when living things no longer are
experiencing life.
True faith is described as a living organism that produces a
valuable service to God's kingdom. It is not simply an intellectual
assent to the facts presented to us in the Bible. Faith is demonstrated
by good works that are evident to all. The proof of our belief is not
found in the ability to recite correct theology, but to put our theology
into practice as we minister to the world around us. If someone asks,
"Where is your faith?" we should point to our hands instead of
our heads because that is where real faith is demonstrated. PRAYER THOUGHTS: Father, may my faith be shown in
my deeds. My faith is alive. |
