EXPERIENCING
FREEDOM And remember, it is a message to obey, not just to listen to. If you
don't obey, you are only fooling yourself. For if you just listen and
don't obey, it is like looking at your face in a mirror but doing
nothing to improve your appearance. You see yourself, walk away, and
forget what you look like. But if you keep looking steadily into God's
perfect law—the law that sets you free—and if you do what it says
and don't forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. – James 1:22-25 (NLT)
Most people tend to hear the word law
and automatically think of bondage. Yet when we are obedient to God's
law, we find that the opposite effect takes place. Obedience to God's
directives actually result in an experience of freedom, for it is only
when we follow God's will that we find ourselves fully living in the
spiritual atmosphere that we were created for.
Unfortunately, many people, including Christians, view following
the ethical, moral, and practical standards of the Bible as restrictive.
God's instruction appears to be extremely limiting. But nothing could be
further from the truth. God knows what is best for us, and when we live
in obedience to His desire we are the ones who benefit as a result. PRAYER THOUGHT: God, I seek the freedom that only
You can give. Teach me to hear, obey, and continue to walk in Your will.
Your law is perfect, good, and beneficial in every way. |
