DEMONIC FAITH

Do you still think it's enough just to believe that there is one God? Well, even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror! Fool! When will you ever learn that faith that does not result in good deeds is useless? – James 2:19-20 (NLT)

It would be incredible for us to think of demons as believers. The term just does not seem to fit. But it depends on how the term is used. Demons do have faith, but they do not have faith that follows. That is, they have intellectually assented to the fact of God's existence, but they have not taken that belief and acted upon it. Their belief is not one of trust that results in action. Instead they believe in God to the extent that it causes them to recoil in fear. They know that God is real, but this knowledge does not bring them joy, assurance, or feelings of intimacy.

When we claim to have faith, but that faith is merely an intellectual exercise, it is of the same substance as the belief displayed by those who dwell in the demonic realm. On the other hand, a faith that trusts in Christ for salvation is a faith that naturally extends to good deeds done for the benefit of the One we believe in. We do not work to earn salvation; we work because we are already saved. A faith that does not act is a faith that God does not recognize.

PRAYER THOUGHT: Father, may my faith be active, practical, and bring glory to You.
