TIME TO GROW
UP You have been Christians a long time now, and you ought to be teaching
others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things a
beginner must learn about the Scriptures. You are like babies who drink
only milk and cannot eat solid food. And a person who is living on milk
isn't very far along in the Christian life and doesn't know much about
doing what is right. Solid food is for those who are mature, who have
trained themselves to recognize the difference between right and wrong
and then do what is right.
– Hebrews 5:12-14 (NLT)
What would we think if we saw a mother feeding her teenager baby
food out of a jar? We would instantly discern that there was a problem.
Beyond looking incredibly silly, we know that a young man or woman of
this age could not possibly be receiving the nutritional requirements
that their body demands.
The same is true for those who have been Christians for years and
are still attempting to find their spiritual needs met by consuming only
the most basic teachings of the Bible. There comes a point in time that
we move beyond the ABCs of Christianity and begin digging into the
deeper riches of God's Word. When we do this, not only do we benefit
personally, but we are able to lead others into the deeper Christian
life by teaching them how to do the same. PRAYER THOUGHT: Father, grant me the desire to go
deeper into Your Word. Teach me to teach others. |
