GOD SPEAKS TODAY

Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. But now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son… – Hebrews 1:1-2a (NLT)

            Some question whether God has anything to say to us today. Has He somehow been silenced? Was there a time when God revealed Himself to humankind but today His tongue has been stilled? In answering these questions it is helpful to see how God has spoken throughout history. Before Christ appeared on the scene, God used various prophets and wide-ranging methodologies to communicate to humankind. These prophets were God's chosen vessels to teach us God's will and to give us His direction.

            In Christ God has given His final revelation. While the prophets fulfilled their function well, it is only in Jesus that God reveals Himself completely. God speaks to us today through the Person of Jesus Christ. God is not silent. Through the life, teaching, ministry, and ongoing companionship of the Son, God continues to converse with us. We have no need for additional revelation – Christ is all that is required for all time and for every circumstance. The knowledge given by the prophets was partial, but in Christ it is complete. Everything that God wants to make known to us is revealed in the Son.
