PURPOSE FOR
LIVING So we are always confident, even though we know that as long as we live
in these bodies we are not at home with the Lord. That is why we live by
believing and not by seeing. Yes, we are fully confident, and we would
rather be away from these bodies, for then we will be at home with the
Lord. So our aim is to please him always, whether we are here in this
body or away from this body. – 2 Corinthians 5:6-9 (NLT)
Most people do not have any real purpose that they live for. They
go through the motions of everyday life – eating, working, leisure,
and so on, without any real regard for why
they do what they do. Even Christians find themselves moving in some
direction, but without any real destination in mind. And we find it
quite impossible to lead others when we do not understand which route we
are taking ourselves.
God wants us to have a mindset that is focused on the future, yet
productive in the present. We live in confident faith that every promise
of God will come true. We see through the eyes of trust that our eternal
homecoming is assured. Yet, while we are still here on this earth, we
are given a purpose for living. Our eyes are not so focused on heaven
that we forget our role here in this world. Both our temporal and
eternal aim is to please God. That is it in a nutshell. Everything that
we do or say is for the sole purpose of bringing pleasure to God. PRAYER THOUGHT: Father, bring conviction to any
area of my life that is not pleasing to You. |
