WHOLLY HOLY So think clearly and exercise self-control. Look forward to the special
blessings that will come to you at the return of Jesus Christ. Obey God
because you are his children. Don't slip back into your old ways of
doing evil; you didn't know any better then. But now you must be holy in
everything you do, just as God—who chose you to be his children—is
holy. For he himself has said, "You must be holy because I am
holy."
– 1 Peter 1:13-16 (NLT)
When we first come into a relationship with Jesus Christ all of
our sins are removed and we are granted the righteousness of Jesus
Christ Himself. We stand before God justified, not because of what we
have done, but based on what Jesus has done for us. We are made holy in
the sight of Almighty God. Yet there is another aspect of holiness that
many seem to miss or mistakenly view as legalism – this is the call to
live a holy life. We have been made holy by God, now we must live as
holy people. This is not a matter of being perfect, or seeking
justification through obedience. It is obedience out of gratitude and a
willingness to do whatever God has called us to do. It is a refusal to
live the life we lived before meeting Christ. It is the realization that
what God desires for us is also what is best for us. We obey not to gain
anything from God, but because we are His children and we want to please
Him. PRAYER THOUGHT: Lord, may my life on the outside
reflect what You have done for me on the inside. I want to be an example
of righteous living. |
