NOT SEEN YET KNOWN

You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him, you trust him; and even now you are happy with a glorious, inexpressible joy. Your reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls. – 1 Peter 1:8-9 (NLT)

In days past some people would pick a Pen Pal that they would correspond with by writing letters back and forth. Oftentimes these friends were from far away and the chances of ever meeting them in person were slim. But through their letters they grew to know each other quite well. Some discovered that their best friend was someone they had never met in person.

When we come into a covenant relationship with Jesus it is sight unseen. He has never come over to our house for a meal, or gone with us to the movies, or taken a long walk with us on a deserted beach. Yet we have grown to know Him in a more intimate way than we could ever know the people that surround us on a daily basis. Through His Word, through our prayers, through life’s experiences, and through the indwelling Spirit, Jesus has made Himself known to us.

Our relationship with Jesus grows to the point that we learn to trust Him completely, and to love Him beyond what we knew we were capable. In this we take great joy.

PRAYER THOUGHT: Lord, I cannot see You, but I know You are here with me. What joy is mine!
