ASSURANCE FOR TOMORROW

For God has reserved a priceless inheritance for his children. It is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And God, in his mighty power, will protect you until you receive this salvation, because you are trusting him. It will be revealed on the last day for all to see. – 1 Peter 1:4-5 (NLT)

            As children many of us would count down the days to Christmas or a birthday with the hope that a particular present we desired would be waiting for us. Sometimes our wish would come true and other times it would not. We were looking forward to an unknown, speculating that our desire would be fulfilled but never fully knowing until the day actually arrived. We might end up welcoming that day with rejoicing or find ourselves feeling a stab of disappointment. Much of life is like that, but fortunately the Christian life is not.

            God does not give us pipe dreams or pie in the sky wishes. He gives us a promise that we can rely on and a destiny that is sure. As His children we can fully expect our Heavenly Father to grant us the inheritance He has set aside for us. It is all together holy. It is beyond the estimation of value. It cannot and will not perish. We can count on the inheritance that is to come as our present possession today. God’s protection is ours until that great day when our spiritual birthright is fully realized.

PRAYER THOUGHT: Lord, I look forward to the day when I receive this inheritance You have promised.
